Yes, We Can Live On Just One Income!

By Jessica Franks

During these times many families are finding their incomes cut in half with spouses being laid off, companies closing, and the economy the way it is. They ask themselves how do we live going to one income? The first thing they need to do is make a plan!

Stress comes when your income reduces and the expenses increase. With gas and food on the increase and pay remaining the same, we have to think about how to cut corners. There are a lot of people are looking for a way to make quick money.

There are organizations out there available to hep. There are charities set up at churches and local food banks to provide you with groceries and rental assistance. Some can give you a free meal or money for groceries and gas.

Apply early for your unemployment benefits! If you have worked, you have paid into unemployment for those times when you are without work. There are also insurance coverage available for those times when you lose your job until you find a new one. Contact your local department of labor for more information.

By making simple changes in lifestyles it can be a less painful transition during the search for employment, going to one income can be less stressful. Reducing unnecessary expenses such as cable, yes it really is not necessary, movie subscriptions (many local libraries have DVDs you can rent for free), trips to the nail/beauty salon ( you really can do those yourself), even heading to the car wash (if you have kids, use them). Other lifestyle changes that can be a little larger would be cutting your entertainment budget or downsizing to a smaller car.

If you need to earn quick money, there are some things you can do. Legitimate home based employment is an option many families consider. It can be hard to find work at home jobs that require no start up and are not scams, but a little research can save you a lot of time, money and effort. There are also companies that offer affiliate programs where you are authorized to sell there products at no cost to startup. Be careful as when something sounds to good to be true, it usually is!

What else can you do to get the things you need, when youare going to one income? Set a plan of action on how long you give yourself to find a new job and what you will do if that doesnat work. Budget out your costs and wheat can be cut. Also have someone you can go to if you need a short or long term loan.

Bartering your talents and services can also help without having to use any money. With our aging population you could consider home day care or a service picking up the elderly and taking them to their doctors appointments. Open your mind, you may think of something you would really enjoy.
