First, make sure that you use 12-point text (Times New Roman is the best choice for large sections of text). Make all pictures and graphics large, so they are easy to read. That's a valuable service to your readers, one that also adds bulk to your book. Make your information interesting and entertaining by adding graphics, comics, and more. This is an important consideration when designing or developing information products.
Include "Johnson boxes" to enclose important points in boxes that are separate from the rest of the text. By including one every two or three pages, you help your customers understand which information is most important - that adds weight to your document.
Next, tell the reader about your other products. This is one of the greatest reasons to publish an ebook - to lead readers to your other products. So put a list of your other products in the back with clickable links. Make sure to include 3D cover shots which will increase the size of your ebook and cause more sales at the same time. It's very easy to create a 3D version of your cover...or you can have someone else do it.
Readers like cheat sheets and checklists, especially for technical subjects. If you are teaching them HOW to do something, and that task has more than two or three steps, you should create a checklist or cheat sheet, one that is a quick and easy reference. Remember, readers will read the text for the full list of instructions, so your checklist only needs to be a point-form summary of how to complete a task - converting a file into a PDF ebook; top ten interview tips; setting up your new software; home buyer's checklist of things not to forget when inspecting a potential new home. All these topics and more can make an effective checklist or cheat sheet. And the best part? Readers love them!
When writing an e-book, take that concept to the next level. Look for other items to include in your e-book. Depending on your subject, your customers might like a sample contract or other form, a convenient spread sheet, or something else which helps them to understand how to do things. Why make them re-invent the wheel? If the tools exist, offer them to your customers.
So these are just a few ways you can provide outstanding value while beefing up your ebook. You will have fewer refunds because of satisfied customers and you can even charge more for your ebook. It's all about value!
